Gangtok, 31st August: Sudha M. Rai, a prominent writer from Sikkim, has been selected for the prestigious Nilim Kumar National Award 2025 by Kabyadhwani Assam. Rai, who is currently serving as an officer in the Language Section of the Education Department, Government of Sikkim, will be honored for her outstanding contributions to literature, culture, and poetry. The award is given annually to personalities excelling in these fields.
Rai has contributed extensively to Nepali literature through her poetry, short stories, and translations. She has also served as a member of the Nepali Language Committee of the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. So far, she has published eight books, including four poetry collections, one short story collection, and three translated volumes.
Throughout her literary career, Rai has received numerous accolades such as the Srashta Puraskar (Sikkim), Bhaichand Pradhan Memorial Award (West Bengal), Kamala Anshu Memorial Award (Sikkim), Dr. Shovakanti Thegim Memorial Award (Sikkim), and the Krishna Bhushan Bal Memorial Srijana Samman (Nepal). Her works have been translated into English, Hindi, and German, bringing Nepali literature to wider audiences.
According to Lakhi Phillbari, Secretary of Kabyadhwani Assam, the award recognizes Rai’s significant role in enriching literature and promoting cultural awareness. The formal award ceremony is scheduled to be held in November, where Rai will be felicitated for her remarkable literary achievements.
