Chief Minister Tamang Participates in Pre-Budget Meeting, Highlights Sikkim’s Development Priorities

Gangtok, 11 January: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the Pre-Budget meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, held in the presence of Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers from various States, and senior officials of the Central and State Governments.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister presented Sikkim’s perspective as a small border State facing unique geographical and strategic challenges. He drew the Centre’s attention to the State’s key development priorities and fiscal sensitivities, stressing the need for sustained support for capital investment, stability in fund devolution, and greater policy flexibility for smaller States.

The Chief Minister also raised important concerns related to connectivity, strengthening of infrastructure, promotion of employment-generating sectors, and the smooth transition of welfare programmes. Emphasising the strategic significance of border infrastructure, he underlined the necessity of continued central assistance to reinforce critical road networks and improve logistical connectivity in the State.

The interaction was described as constructive, positive, and forward-looking, with assurances that the issues raised would be given due consideration. Reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development, the Chief Minister stated that Sikkim remains dedicated to contributing meaningfully towards the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
