Gangtok, 17th September: Sikkim today joined the nationwide Sewa Pakhwada campaign, held to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. The programme was organised at Utsav Plaza Swarna Jayanti Maitreya Manjari in Ridge Park, in the presence of Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

The Sewa Pakhwada will be observed across the country from September 17 to October 2 with a focus on public service and social welfare. In Sikkim, the campaign will carry out activities aimed at community service, including health camps, cleanliness drives, awareness programmes, and support for persons with disabilities, along with marathons, sports, and cultural events.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday and praised his leadership for raising India’s global stature and bringing development to every part of the country. He said the Sewa Pakhwada reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of Antyodaya, reaching the last person in the queue and added that Sikkim is proud to be part of this national effort towards a stronger and self-reliant India.
As part of the occasion, the Chief Minister also introduced several welfare measures in the State. These included financial assistance to more than 31,000 mothers under the Sikkim Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana (SASY), support for specially-abled citizens, sanitation workers and Gram Panchayats, and the distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards, D-sludging vehicles, and houses under the SUGAY scheme. He also announced the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign and highlighted the statewide observance of National Nutrition Month and the PM TB-Mukt Bharat programme.
The PM Vishwakarma Yojana was also rolled out in Sikkim to provide formal registration, toolkits, subsidised loans, and employment support for traditional artisans. On the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, the Chief Minister extended greetings to workers and artisans, recognising their role in building the nation’s growth and infrastructure.
He said the day is a double celebration, honouring both the Prime Minister’s leadership and the contribution of workers and artisans. He called upon the people of Sikkim to work together as Team Sikkim, united in purpose and committed to achieving the shared vision of a developed India.
