Gangtok, 3rd September: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has issued a directive to all telecom service providers in Sikkim, making the inclusion of the Nepali language in their services mandatory.
According to the official memorandum, all telecom operators functioning in the state are required to provide Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) messages, SMS facilities, and call center services in Nepali, in addition to existing language options.
The DoT has instructed all licensed telecom companies to take immediate steps to implement the directive and ensure full compliance. Service providers have also been asked to submit a compliance report to the concerned Licensed Service Area (LSA) office within 30 days.
This move aims to ensure better communication accessibility for subscribers in Sikkim, where Nepali is the predominant language.
